Identification

  • Medium-sized (10–14 mm), brilliant metallic green to blue with 6 (sometimes fewer) white spots on elytra.
  • Bright, iridescent; fast runner on forest paths and clearings.
  • Early-season specialist; often seen in spring on shaded trails.

Habitat in New Brunswick

Prefers shaded forest paths, trails, clearings, and open woodland edges with bare soil or leaf litter. Common in mixed and deciduous forests.

Flight Season in NB

April 9 – September 14 (early spring peak; some activity to September).

Distribution & Notes

Widespread across New Brunswick in forested and semi-open habitats. One of the most frequently observed species in spring. Often abundant on sunny days along trails and forest edges.
